Default My (new to me) '98 F3...Questions inside!

Hey all,

Well, after much deliberating and shopping, I finally settled on a '98 F3. 17,000 miles, she's all there save for a little road rash on the side fairings. I already put 65 miles on her today. She's VERY different than my ol' 94 Kawi EX500! I'm gonna have to get used that riding position but I think we're gonna get along just fine

Questions!

First, the real dumb one: how do you get the seat off??? I need access to the rear fairings as they are a little loose. I'd also like to know if there's any kind of storage space in there. I don't have a manual for this bike so I don't know squat about it!

Does this bike have the dreaded CCT problem, or is that only on the newer F4s?

It runs fine, real strong, but the motor has that "pulsating" sound to it? The EX was a 2-banger, so I don't know if this is normal for an inline 4? The lights don't flicker or anything like that.

Is there a doubble-bubble windscreen available for this bike? I think this will be my second mod (first one is a Creese fender eliminator, to get rid of the horrible hack job the last guy did; it's already on its way).

That's all for now... it's rainy and dark out, so pics tomorrow! Thanks!

To get the seat off, all you have to do is remove the side panels, and then there is two 12 or 14mm bolts holding it on. Just undo those and it will come off. As far as the "pulsating", I'd have to hear it to tell you if it is normal. I do believe someone makes a doube bubble for them. Good luck and congrats on the new bike. They are great bikes, I'm sure you'll love it.

Thanks, adam... OK so the seat is not a locking unit like on my EX? I guess it's part of the body, then. I saw a trunk mod on cbrworld so will likely go that route.

I've heard many bike pulsating like this one, seems it's normal but I want to be sure. This is my now my daily ride (no car), so it needs to be ultra-reliable.

I will be getting a manual for it soon, too. Now to look up those windscreens...

I think powerbronze makes a double bouble screen for it, and congrat's on the bike.

Congrats on the new bike fotocycle. To the best of my knowledge, all CBR 600's do have the same problem with the CCT. Funny because you would figure that Honda would have been able to come up with a solution to a problem thats been around since atleast 1991.

Thanks, guys.. I'll look into Powerbronze for that screen. The winds were pretty rough today, and I was getting hit in my chest a lot harder than I ever did on the Ninja, with its taller windscreen. But otherwise, I'm getting used to her quite quickly

And I just ordered a service manual, so if that CCT crap does hit, I'll be ready for it.

So here's a pic... sorry it's a night shot, I got home after dark tonight but had to get some shots

EDIT: I'd forgotten to mention, the only mod I see that it has is a Two Brothers can, which sure sounds sweet.

That's a beautiful bike ya got there bro. Those Two Bros do sound sweeet as hell huh? My brother had one on his f2 for a while before he got his Wiley-Co and I always loved the way it sounded. Again, congrats on that bad ass bike, you're gonna love it.

Thanks, guys! Yeah she's in the standard Honda colors but that's actually exaxtly what I wanted I have a mini F4i in those colors, almost since I bought my first bike back in '03.

I did a little paintwork on the scratched up triple tree, from the key hitting it, I guess, and now that looks mighty nice again. Now I just gotta figure out how to tighten those rear side panels...

Thanks, man ... I'm actually trying to stay away from the CF look for this one, my last one had that stuff all over lol. I already have to replace the mirrors Not just cuz of the CF "look" (I could always paint them), but they're crappy and jump out of place after hitting a bump.

So here's one last poser shot from me, lol:

First of all, congrats on the new bike!

The F3 does indeed have a CCT issue, but in my experience, it sounds like keys rattling at idle. Hot or cold. It's a very easy, and relatively cheap fix, so don't worry!

Zero Gravity makes DB screens as well......

Nice looking bike! Congrats.

The pulsating sound you talk of may be the carbs being slightly out of sync in the idle mixture. My F2 did that after I put a jet kit in it. Very easy to remedy. Maybe your local dealer would be cool enough to show you the idle mixture screws.

As for the CCT, I had 32k on my F2 when I traded for my F4i. Never had a problem, not even a vavle adjustment! Talked to a guy from Minneapolis who had 86k on his, told me his experience was the same. Solid motor!
