Happens. Make sure all your connectors are clean and tight when you swap it out or you might be doing it again. But it's a pretty common failure, especially in hotter climates.
It used to be one of the most common replacement parts in the 80s. You hear about it less now.

Yep, mine got replaced last week, also burned up one of the slots on the connector but we were able to just replace that connector in the one slot and not the whole harness.
I was also told it was a common thing to go wrong.

I thought mine was burnt out and I was about to go buy a new one, but before I did I went through all the wires and I found a wire that was open and the relay by it was burnt. I changed it out and everything was fine. I have a wiring help thing and i will give you the website when I get home today. It will tell you exactly what your problem is.

I don't think I've ever known someone with a Honda F1/F2/F3 who hasn't had their R/R go out at one time or another.

Yea I figured it out tho. The design of the regulator rectifier is faulty. It is flat and cannot dissapate (sp?) heat very well. The new ones have fins on them to release the heat. Thats what alot of them blow on the f2/3/4

Bad connections and bad grounds cause manny reg/rect problems. Bad connections have a high resistance that translates into heat and burnt connectors

Lots of people have glued on metal fins and placed a tiny computer fan over the R/R to cool it. Some hook it up to the brake lights so that whenever you're stoped the fan is on.
