10,000 Mile maintenance
I have had my F4i for about 1.5 years now. I have rode it past it's 10,000 mile mark (i recently passed by 11,111 miles ;) and its making light rattly buzzy sounds from about 4000 on up to whatever the rev limiter is. I have the APE manual tensioner on this and I don't think thats it. It also LIGHTLY goes tic tic tic at idle. My bike it super strong and responsive, and I always run 93+ octane in it and synthetic oil from the honda dealer (spectro methinks).
I replaced the chain and sprockets so thats not where the sound is coming from. It sounds like the whole engine buzzes. I'm wondering if I need to take it in for valve shims or some other high level repair that I should not be attempting?
Related Info:
My bike has a power commander III serial unit with the correct map for the F4i with K&N filter and full hindle exhaust (all which my bike has).

Mine is close to the same condition as yours. 10,700mi, devil slip on, PCIII, APE CCT, etc. I haven't had to adjust the CCT yet, but if it is sounding like it used to when the OEM part went bad, it probably needs tightened up. Mine doesn't really make any buzzy sound other than the engine internals working, but it does have that tick at idle. I also have a 95' Ranger 4.0 V6 and I believe it is the lifters on it that is making the noise, they tap so loud sometimes it sounds almost like the engine is knocking. It has done that for the past 50K miles and I haven't had any problems yet. The Honda tick and the Ranger tick do sound somewhat similar.
I also run syntheic in the F4i, (mobil 1 15-50) but always use 87 oct fuel. Tried a tank of the new Shell 93 the other day, and it made absolutely no difference.
Anyway, if anybody knows what the tick at idle is, let us know!

using higher octane fuel than what is needed is bad, it will carbon up the combustion chamber. foul plugs etc.
Change plugs and run 87 octane. see if that makes a difference.

I have same problem.. i'm e 11,738 PCIII USB run 93+ most of the time (since about 2 months ago).. go the brandnew upgraded version of the automatic CCT .. Mine seems to be more directed to the left cylinder.. Mine make the tick at idle and after 6k I can't hear SH** because of my exhaust but it's very noticable at 3-4k. The bike still runs really strong as you said yours does. I've got honda GN4 oil in it now and have had. I think I'm going to change my oil/filter this weekend and put in Rotella T and see if the fresh oil makes a difference. Even though not necessary until 16,000.

I think a quality oil makes all the difference guys. I got regular old 10W40 in there now and i'm never doing that again. Its name brand stuff, but i'm gonna go back to a motorcycle oil.
