GA,

I think I know you from GSB/BSB.

But the flapper mod is a modification to the air intake track for the CBR's. There is a valve on the inlet for the air intake that allows it to reduce the air to allow it to keep it pressurized at all ranges. Most people (myself include on my 06 CBR) take the vacuum assembly off the bike and then wedge the valve(flapper) up so that it always stays open to allow unrestricted air into the airbox. I went a little further and picked up a carbon filbre air intake that totally removes the unit from the bike.

Honestly I don't know of any downside. Some might try and say that it will give it even less on the low RPM's but I hvaen't noticed that one bit. But if your bike is totally stock and have no other mods that might be the case. But I have a full Yosh System, mapped Power Commander, K&N air filters in my bike. But on a couple of CBR sites I have seen both sides of the coin. The great thing about this mod is you can do it really easy and if there is a downside, going back to stock takes about 5 minutes. Now in my case with the HRC setup it would be a few hours to return to stock as the CBR isn't not one of the easiest to work on, LOL.

Here is a site that has all the info and details about doing the mod. This i Dan Kyle's Website and he is one of the performance guys for the CBR's.

Here is the one I have for my bike.

Excellent response, thanks! A CBR1K might be in my future, and I'd heard a lot about this mod without details.
