Default Has Anyone Ever Tried This?

I posted this in the performance and customizing section, with no response. I would like to know if anyone has taken the electronic steering stabalizer off of the 1000RR and replaced it with a GPR or similar race type stabilizer. All of my race buddies(they have GSXR) are telling me to do this but, I have had no problems with the stock one. I would hate to spend this type of money on something unless I am improving and cant seem to find anyone who has done this. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I use the GPR. Nice Product.

What I didn't like about the HESD:

A. If you enter a corner slow and leave much faster, the front feels different because the HESD has kicked-in. It is doing it's job, but I need the feel to be the same all the time.

B. Damping isn't just for headshake. I REALLY want damping when I brake too late and the front gets loose. I also want damping if I hit a rock or pothole or another bike's tire - at ANY speed. The HESD isn't on at slower speeds.

C. I want to adjust for conditions and speeds I am running. Adjustable is always better for me.
(Stock, it won't get stiff enough for real serious very high speed headshake.)

D. The damn thing went to full on when I was splitting traffic and needed to make a quick right move. I almost didn't make it because I didn't expect any resistence. That's when I finally pulled it.

I am much happier with the GPR.

Clevis Thank You! I believe I will get the GPR. I have experienced similar instances with the HESD and definitely will be replacing it.

Ive read many posts where it prevented proper countersteer on the track by experienced riders. it was to firm in the corner and after going to a gpr type the kept higher speeds thru the same corners because the damper wasnt so "locked" in place.

good enough for me til i feel like spending the money though ;-)

This is correct. LDH has as Ohlins setup that Dan Kyle sells and it's my understanding that it works great! I'm throwing the 1000RR on the track for the first time (been racing a 600RR) I'll let you know how it acts from a puddknockers poinyt of view.

Update, I have had the GPR on the 1000RR for a month or so now, and I would never go back to the HESD. The GPR is so user friendly that I wish I had replaced it much sooner!!!!

I have heard that if you remove the HESD, you need to install a resistor on the wires to keep the bike from throwing codes and cutting power. There is lots of information about it over at www.1000rr.net
