that's pretty much what all my buddies here said too.
It doesn't get here till june, so I'm riding a couple guys' cruisers till then.
I had 2 CBR 600s and 4 years sportbike experience before I got my 1000RR in December, and still think the bike has way more power than Ill ever really need.. You had better be damn carefull... I would seriously reconsider throwing that deposit towards a 600 first..

And an used 600 at that! Less headache when you drop it, slide it, flip it, tumble it.
Riding cruisers don't mean much. Cruisers are wayyyyyy behind in technology and they hardly compare to sportbikes. They both have 2 wheels, and an engine, thats about all the similarity you're gonna get.
I've thought about it, and know that if I got a 600, within a couple weeks I'd be needing/ wanting more.
I like getting the best possible thing first (what I want).
trust me, I will be careful.
What do you need more than a 600 for?!?!?!? for christ sake have you been on a 600? There is NO NEED for a sporkbike to be greater than 600cc's for the road.
In the motorcycle world, getting the best possible bike first is the ABSOLUTE worst thing you can do.
Hopefully you will learn from your mistakes without getting killed

Take our advice, advice that has experiance. 600 is more you need on the street.
I know people who "downgraded" from a 1000 to 600 or 750 because a) smaller displacement is more fun, higher rpm b)more flickable, more control c)with close to stock bikes running high 9's to 10's, you dont need more D) Its just unessary for the street, you wont even get to use it.
Being careful doesnt mean much. You can "be careful" pointing a loaded gun at people, but shit happens. There was a post about an accident recently. A guy had a brand new GSXR600. He was practicing in a parking lot but lost control of the bike. He veared out the parking lot onto the street and a car t-boned him. Shit happens, shit like accidents. The world would be a better place if accidents dont happen, but they do.
