Default Repsol 1000 Really limited?

hi everyone. I don't post often but have been a member for some time now. My question is this. Is the 2005 Repsol CBR1000RR really a limited edition? I believe this is a marketing ploy with dealers to get people to pay full price (or close to it) for the bike right now byt making those who want one badly believe they need to buy it now, or there will not be another chance. There is nothing that I can find on the Honda web site stating that this is a limited edition.

I remember the Erion 929RR and all of the dealers telling me it would be limited edition. One year later, they had discounted them $1500 - 2000 to get rid of them. I was told that my color choice was the rarer of the two when I bought my yellow 929 in 2000. I did not fall for it then and am not going to fall for it now that I want the Repsol 1K.

Feel free to chime in and let me know what you think.

I think you are 100% right on that topic. They know that if the word starts floating around that this is a limited edition they will sell alot more of them and at a higher price.

Here is a little story for you. I just received my Repsol it is in the garage. I was supose to get it in NH but the dealer kept saying I have one in and sold I was like okay i am waiting on my he was going to get 5. So I am in Iraq and wife is doing everything for me back home in Northern NY. Well we started to get a bad feeling about it so we contacted the local dealer. He said yep I have one sitting here really not getting alot of hits due to extreme winter. So we decided to go witht he NY dealer and went down and did the deal......so after about a week and a half wife calls the NH dealer and they tell her they are mad cause they were suppose to get 5 got one asnother one was suppose to get 2 got one. He not trying to sell a bike cause i own one. So wife goes to dealer to pick up a part for me and the sales rep comes up and says good thing you jumped when you did i have had people as far away as the NY City trying to locate a Repsol. SHe says they cant find one and he said the dealers are mad cause they were told they were getting such and such a number and they didnt honda tells them they will not be getting anymore.....sorry so long but very interesting....maybe for once they tell the truth and are limited

If they are in fact limited to a certain number, why wouldn't Honda say this on their web site? I think that they are just hard to get right now because it is the middle of winter and dealers don't accept as many bikes due to not wanting them to sit on their show room floors and paying interest on them. I think in the next 6 - 8 weeks, you will see alot more of them starting to hit the show rooms. I hope so at least, as I want one, but I am not going to pay MSRP for one. I am just stubborn like that, I guess.

Well i agree they should say it on the web site. But I did try to shop around and these dealers have said they are only getting so many bikes and soory its been sold... so I hope you get one and agree i didnt pay msrp so you can haggle with them, but dont expect drastic savings cause they will get the next guy to pay the price they want. i guess time will tell if they are limited I found artical where it said around 5000 were being made i am trying to find that and post.

Not to be a smart ass, but I highly doubt that.. I think the comment about being winter is right on.. Dealers dont want to sit on anything.. Honda may also not have buil a whole lot of them right now as well.. from what I understand they still have quite a few 2004 Bikes sitting at Honda that havent even gotten to the dealers... My dealer orderd my '04 last december directly from Honda.. Kinda odd for being the last month of the year....

I work at a Honda dealer and honestly I do not think they are limited. In December/January Honda allowed us to order one, we received it and sold it. A week later Honda offered us another one. We ordered it and Honda says it will be in around June. Since then we have been allowed to order one more. The problem is Honda has not said it is a limited edition nor have they gave the Repsol 1000rr a limited edition vin or certification. Our rep will come in on Wednesday, lets see what he says....

Well I would love to find out what your rep says. Do tell us cause when I bought mine I talked to my a frien in NH who is the general manager. He said when he went to the show and talked to the reps they said yes they were only making 5000 as a limited edition. So I am going to give him a call and see whats up. I mean he has no reason to "sell me"a bike I have one already. so then we can compare notes

At first I heard they were making 1000, then 2000, now 2500. Any rep can say what they think but until Honda says it in writing it doesnt mean anything to me. The best part is that Honda sent out a letter saying that unless we provide a repsol VIN we could not order the sticker kit that came with the bike. Which is funny because you can still order the repsol fairings without having a repsol VIN.

I know that at my local dealer, (Charlotte , NC) there are like 5 or 6 in the back of the dealership still in crates or some type of metal framing as if they came off the truck and are just sittin. They got like one or 2 in the showroom so they are pretty easy to come by here.

I have fallen for the hype I must admit. I have put a deposit down on a Repsol today. The dealership has told me the same story as others have told you. They got one, sold it. They got another one by chance, which is mine, until I say otherwise. I'm not sure if I believe the limited edition crap either. The one thing Honda SHOULD do is infact make it a limited editon, OR, there would be too many on the road. Not something you want to see when it is LIMITED. They are supposed to get mine in June, as another has stated. We will see what happens. I sure hope Honda doesn't change their minds.

I was also told that each dealership was allocated one. Then Honda apparently said they were sending out a few more. I guess some dealerships were lucky enough to grab the few more.

I would just hate to be out riding one day and see 10 of them. That would really blow.

Let's hope Honda lives up to the "Limited" rumors.

Correct me if I am wrong Honda dealership parts peeps.........The Honda Repsol replacement fairings DO NOT come with the stickers already on them.

The fairing's come with the regular stickers that come on the bike. The repsol 1000rr comes with a sticker kit for the owner to put on if he or she wishes. The sticker kit is just a bunch of sponsor stickers.

I think it's hype, just like my limited edition R6 2003...I admit I don't see a lot of them but I do see them...better thing to do is to get a regular 1000RR, and have it painted the Repsol way if that is what you like....it would be much cheaper I am sure.

Marketing as a limited edition creates lots of hype which in turn creates more demand, hence the higher price that many will pay!
