hey dude..I own a 2004 1000rr and love it..My buddie owns an 04 R1 and we swapped bikes for a little test ride.. The first thing I noticed..mainly because i am 6'1 and 20 lbs is that the R1 felt small on me..MAybe its because I am used my honda which fits just right..The honda also comes with a hydraulic clutch which shifts on the fly and is very smooth throughout the whole travel of the lever..The brakes on the the honda where also much better and the bottom to mid range torque kills the R1..Not to say the R1 is not a good bike but you really have to get the revs up there to get the most of the bike..Personally the CBR felt like all the components of a great bike are working together..Throttle response is flawless and the bike pulls evenly throughout the rpms with no sudden jumps..Also for the record if you keep the revs below 5, like I do on my daily commutes, you can get up to 40 mpg..One more thing, In case you did not know, you cannot use a magnetic tank bag on the honda..It will not stick because the gas tank cover is made of plastic..Other than that, the average rider would not notice any major differnces in the two..They are both very fast and great bikes..In my opinion the honda is a more comfortable ride especially if you plan on riding it as a daily commuter...

I've ridden both, but not long enough or hard enough to make any kind of educated response.

One thing I do know however is underseat exhaust. For a little while it feels different to have the heat coming from under the seat, but after a while you don't even notice it. Most bikes nowadays have heat reflective material to block most of the heat anyways.

My friend has an 04 R1, and we swapped one day. One thing I definately noticed right away is the small size of the R1 compared to the RR, and the weight difference. I cant say anything bad about the R1, but IMO the RR is a better bike, thru and thru.
