I need the name of a good trust worthy mechanic in southern cali. I have been trying to find someone, but I'd much rather work on the word of mouth system.
I like the guys at Cycle Depot in Eagle Rock near Pasadena (cycledepot.net). Tommy in the Service dept. is always willing to cut a few bucks off here and there if you get multiple pieces of work done. Same with the guys in the Parts dept.
what do you need done to your ride dude? im an MMI grad and i might be able to help.
Really I'm just trying to be extra safe, maybe even parinoid about the basics. I just bought the bike not to long ago, and I want to change the Air-Filter, the Oil, and if at all needed have the carbs cleaned or whatever. I just want to make sure my bike is in the best running shape it can be in, it was mentioned when i bought it, to maybe check the brakes also. It seems to me it has been running strong after warming up.
I called this one guy and he gave me some pretty shocking prices. I may take on the air filter, but the oil which seems like a no brainer, makes me worry somehow.....
Oil change on a bike is pretty damn near the same, if not the same, as a car. I did it my first time without a worry.
Take off old oil filter, prep new oil filter with putting oil on the rim of new one, wipe off excess oil where the filter should go, put filter on. Drain oil pan, plug it up, and put in new oil.
Pretty freakin simple
Places wanna charge like $20+ bux + material costs for an oil change on a bike. Takes like 15 min, save $20 bux, and buy your gf/wife flowers (something cheap )
im a cetified BMW tech and a certified Suzuki tech with papers to prove it too. but if you would like i can help you with the air filter, oil change and other routine stuff. i just need to get a carb sync tool and some other basic stuff before i can woork on anything. but that will happen soon. and just to clarify, you are wanting this done on your ninja?

All depends, where are you located? This will help out greatly. If you are local, Id be interested in showing you how to do it, so you can handle it next time.

WOOOHOO!! shes all done, I decided to let go the paranoia and do it myself. I found that i need to buy a couple of tools to make my life easier next time. The air filter was due and i mean DUE!! for a swap, I replaced it with a K&N, and I used the OEM oil filter as well as Spectro Gold 4 synthetic oil. It took me a while and I freaking misaligned the lower left fairing the first time I tried to put it back on!!! ARRRRGGITH!!! (what a noob). All in all she's running better now and I have no more guilt for pushing her. For a 2001 with over 20k miles on it, she's strong (not to mention im a big guy).............thanks people!
see dude, ya had it in you all along. also, for future reference, try to find a service manual online for your bike and just scan thru it. it will help you get a better understanding of you scoot.
