Just Curious...

I got pulled over doing 70 in a 40. Cop was cool and gave me a ticket for only 9 over. (smallest one here) He said though, that if i showed up in court he would smack me with the full 30 over.

Now i'm not planning to go into court, but i was just curious. Can he do that?

Maybe? I don't understand why they feel like they have to threaten you.

Not sure. I had a cop give me a careless driveing and he said that if I showed up at court he would charge me with drag raceing. Well I got an attorney and he got the careless reduced to speeding 1-10mph over (lowest MI has) before going to court. Never heard anything from the officer.

I know in some places that when the officer reduces it on the road the ADA will have the officer "issue" another citiation for the full amount. Why I have no idea, lucky ours wouldn't do that.
