Default 1st ticket on my bike, HELP!! (long)

So I'm leaving my house going to the barber shop right behind my neighborhood, could have fu(kin walked but it was such a nice day. I hang a left at the end of my block, hang a right at the next block, get about 1/4 of a mile up the street check my mirror and I see a Camaro cop car lighting me up. I pull over removed my keys, put my sidestand down and sat there hoping I'm doing everything correctly being as though I have never been pulled over on my bike. The officer approaches me an asked to see my license and reg. I ask him if it would be okay if I removed my helmet, he says okay.

Officer: "you know the speed limit on this street"

Me: " I believe 25 sir"

Officer: "do you know how fast you were going"

Me: " I don't believe I was going over 25"

Officer: " I clocked you at 41"

Me: " Sir, I didn't realize I was going that fast"

Officer: " We've been getting alot of complaints about excessivce speeding in this area"

Me: " Yes sir, I live right around the corner and have kids I am aware of this problem, by the way where did u clock me?

Officer: " right back there, your speed was climbing, but I didn't hit the lights until u hit 41"

He then writes me the ticket. I understand he has a job to do, and being a father I appreciate every extra pair of eyes out there watching out for my loved ones, but COME ON! Did I do something wrong in my actions/ responses. I plan on going to court because I honestly don't feel like I broke the law. Any suggestions for my case?

Sorry so long

Well if you were doing 41 in a 25, you did technically break the law. Besides that i would go to court and see what happens. I got pulled over a few months ago for doing 50 in a 45 and it got tossed. Whats the worse that can happen besides having to pay the ticket, unless you need the points.

lol sorry you got clocked. But how you pull over and interact before he writes you isnt why he wrote you that ticket.

But you shouldnt have to ask to take your helmet off. Take it off right after you turn the bike off and have it parked.

I was about to take it off but then I remembered an officer on another forum saying that some cops see a helmet as a potential weapon so I just asked.

I see a helmet as a potential.......helmet. They cant mace you or knock you out with a helmet on. You dont take your helmet off and hold it. You put it on the ground or something.

Been all over the East coast and as far west as Ohio on the bike nothing like some good old Staten Island police.
On the ticket some street are 25 for a reason, school, zone,a lot of pedestrian traffic and some are made that way for speed traps. Were there any other cars around you? Also he used radar on a normal street. Unheard of in NYC but down south i know they do it all the time. Just found it weird they would use radar on a populated slow street,or did he pace you?

He's not in frickin NYC! Who cares? He's in Richmond.

He got clocked going 41 in 25. I got lasered going 39 in 25.

Take it to court and plead for mercy. They'll drop it down.

I was the only vehicle on the street. As for how he clocked me, I'm not sure but he didn't have a radar on his vehicle.

For the second time, I don't believe I broke the law. I know of the speed limits in my area, hence my replies to the cop, matter of fact there is one of those portable basketball hoops right where he says he clocked me. I always take extra care in that area because you never know when a kid's gonna run out for the ball. I don't believe I was going that fast. If I did I wouldn't waste the court's time or mine for that matter on something as small as a speeding ticket. When we get to court and the cop convinces the court, oh well at least I persued the matter as far as I could, case closed.

Well you did break the law, you were breaking the speed limit... some cops will let you off with a warning when you do right and are polite others dont... I would goto court and get it reduced at least I bet..

So if you were approaching a rider on a traffic stop and he took his helmet off as you got close, the thought of him swinging it at you wouldn't cross your mind?

I just thought I was playing it safe.
