Default First ticket...

Well, I have been the proud owner of a '05 CBR 600RR for less than one week and I already have a ticket and a court date. I was on one of the back stretches and I decided to open it up a little and that's when I saw a cop going in the opposite direction put on his lights and turn around and bingo, I'm busted. I was doing about 75 in a 55 zone as well as not having a permit at the moment. See, I went for the permit last week and failed the vision test so they told me that I could either get a daylight restriction or get my eyes checked and come back. Right after I went to the DMV, I got my eyes checked and now I have stigmatism and need glasses. The glasses will be here next week and then I can go and take the written test no problem. I have to go to court in six days but I don't know when I will be able to take the test for my permit. If I get the glasses before my court date, I can gain a few points by showing up with a permit I hope. The cop told me that he would not impound my bike and instead had a towtruck drive it back to my house, which was about 25 miles away, to the tune of $180. All in all the officer seemed cool and was asking me how fast I have taken it and I told him that I was still breaking the engine in, so not too fast.

On the same note, on the way home, the towtruck driver almost went through a red light and nearly hit a car! We were about ten feet from actually getting in a wreck which would have NOT been good. My bike survived the trip without any harm but the driver left his heart at the intersection. He may need surgery for that later . All in all, it could have been alot worse since my bike could be at the lot rather than in my shed. There are a few LEO's on here so if any of you would give me some advice, I would appreciate it. If my glasses come before my court date, I will take the test and get my permit and see if they will take that into consideration. Perhaps I will pay a fine and go home and not be out of it this riding season. Hell, I could have gotten the permit a week ago but I elected to get my eyes checked rather than get a daylight restriction on my license. When you own one of the best bikes on the market, it's hard not to speed and the weather has been shit around here lately. I just can't help myself when it comes to speeding a little. I'm out...

sounds like you're in a tight spot. what you're saying is you were a) riding without any kind of permit or license and b) riding in violation of the corrective lense restriction that would have been in place if you actually had one. good luck in court.

You might be able to ask for a continuance! Call the court BEFORE the date and ask them if you can continue the case. Sometimes they will let you slide with just a fine if you get everything squared away prior to court. About the speeding, if you have a clear history you might just get traffic school.

Default Traffic school...

Ah, traffic school, what a great way to spend six hours of my life, being told things that I already know. Yes, speeding is dangerous and I broke the law by not renewing my permit and taking the skills test but I do have documents showing that I did get the temp packet as well as a receipt saying that I took an eye exam an hour after I was at the DMV. I did have the old expired temp slip on me at the time that I was stopped by the LEO as well as proof of insurance which is in my favor. It was just a case of very bad timing since I would have gotten my glasses in about a week anyways and then I would have obtained my permit. The officer said that the speeding charge might be dropped altogether yet he would be unable to show up in court on the day that I agreed to appear... Actually, we were talking a bit while I was in his cruiser, waiting on the tow truck to arrive and I found out that he actually hates to stop bikes. He told me that he worked down in Myrtle Beach and he witnessed Harley riders throw beer bottles on sportbike riders as they passed whatever bar they were at, at the present time. I told him if that ever happened to me, I would kick the shit out of someone and he agreed that something would happen if it happened to him. Just being honest with most cops will help out a great deal and besides, I told him right out that I used to go alot faster than what he clocked me at but my engine is new and I was taking it easy with it. So, I'll call the court and explain the situation and see if they can postpone the date until my glasses come in and I get my permit. It's worth a shot...

In my experience, and others I know of, if the cop is not in court and you plead not guilty, the case is dropped and you pay court costs. It all depends on where you live, and I don't know about Ohio but thats how it worked in both CA and MO for me when I was younger. Did he wink at you when he told you he couldn't make it to court? Why on earth would he tell you that if he wanted it to stick? Good luck however you handle it.

my experiences probably differ from most, no matter what i have done to fix a problem that i have gotten a ticket for, i have never been let go, unless i had my lawyer go for me. A buddy and i had been pulled over together for the same thing (license plate), sent them in with the same printed letter stating we haven't gotten our new bracket yet, his came back with a $50 fine and mine with a $110 fine. i believe it all depends on the judge and if he had any servicing the night before or not. i guess i's just lucky enough to go in front of the judge everytime he hasn't been laid in a couple weeks.

Default Judge...

Hey Nutsack, I was told that one of the judges that I may have to answer to is a 70yr old female, so it's possible that she hasn't had any for a few decades . What I'm going to do is call and ask for my date to be pushed back until I get my glasses and my permit. That should make my case easier or I could just show up and plead not guilty knowing that the officer will not be able to show up and hopefully the case will be thrown out. The guy who pulled me over told me that he would not be in court so I may get out of it with just court costs...

You seem a tad less than intelligent so I'll keep it simple. Your fucked if the cop shows up. And If I wrote you that ticket and you were stupid enough to admit that you "used to go alot faster", and you only posess a temp permit I would have impounded you're bike. See... I get a certain satisfaction when I take bikes away from broke dicks like you. It keeps the rest of us safe. I cut bikers breaks all the time in CALI in part for my love of motorcycling. But guys like you, make it bad for guys like me. Moreover, you come on here expecting sometype of sympathy. I say And it doesnt even sound like you've learned a bit from all of this.

75 in a 55 is not fast if there is no one else on the road and no side streets for cars to pull out of. The only thing i got from your post is that you like being an egotistical dick. The fact he stopped for a cop goin the opposite direction and just took the ticket shoulda been good enough. I guess you kinda like letting people know that you have the power right. So good go out and give cops a bad name. Not my problem. Just stay out of SUVS in the rain they can be real killers with a macho maniac behind the wheel.

Chill out with the flaming!

The OP did what was reqiured BY LAW when he pulled over because he was speeding. I find it kind of in bad taste to reference a police officer that was killed in the line of duty while enforcing the law. Guess he should have kept letting that sportbike run 100+ mph in a neighborhood with wet streets.

Just volunteer to knock the cobb webs off of it for her, in place of community service, and she might not even charge court cost.

he is the typical i"t is not going to happen to me" kind guy, then when things go bad he cries like a baby wondering why he should suffer punishment.

here is a tip:
get a real liscense before you try opening it up a little.

then you would not have this problem, but i guess you dont think you will get caught do you.

i am going to go out on a limb here and say
