Default I look like a Ninja on the bike (56k = bad)

I'm not sure if this is against a law.

I take a self defense class and every once a week, we have japanese sword training. This requires me to bring my oak training sword to class. I ride my bike to class almost always. The only way I can carry the sword is by strapping it to my back like what you see in those samurai movies. I don't conceal it in any way.

Is it illegal to ride around with a 41 inch oak sword strapped to my back?

well it's not a knife. It's a piece of wood shaped to look like a sword

pic of bokken training

Its material ranges from oak to hickory. Mainly hardwood. Won't slice anything off but can sure crack a skull.

It should not be illegal in any way. If it were people wouldn't be able to carry baseball bats in their car as it could be considered a weapon!! I don't know about Kansas' laws but here in Arizona if a knife has more than a 3 inch blade it is considered a deadly weapon. However in Arizona you may carry a weapon without a permit as long it is in plain site. I don't know if you have a right to carry law in Kansas, if you have right to carry law you could carry your actual sword with you no problem. But check your local laws, don't want to get in trouble for illegally carrying a weapon. big trouble!

I think you will be ok, but don't be surprised if you ever get stopped. Once the officer sees it is wood and you explain the situation you should be fine.

I used to have sword training as well, used live. Anyway not illegal as you're going to a place to learn how to use it.

lol....

anyone read the book snowcrash? the main character goes into a yamaha dealer and buys a new bike and all the gear, then makes sure he can fit his katana and wakazashi on with the gear and still ride before he takes off...

His name: Hiro Protagonist

Fucking fantastic book... one of the best i've ever read.

Also- i want pics.

And do you mostly do Kenjutsu, i take it? Something i've always wanted to get into... but have never had the time...

thanks for the awesome replies guys. I'm working on getting pics of me and both my bokkens. I'll take them today when I get home and post it.

kevinwilly, I'm actually taking Aikido but sensei is teaching us certain aspects of aikibudo to strengthen our stance.

kneedraggin, so far, I haven't been stopped. A cop drove past me once but didn't turn around.

exmarinegrunt, I've always wondered about the baseball bats. Is it a concealed weapon if you keep it under your seat? That's how I keep my other bokken. It slides in between the driver's door and seat. Could that be considered a consealed weapon?
