A friend of mine *cough* got a misdemeanor charge in AZ for disorderly conduct. Well, he lives in CA and based on the fact that he would have to travel to AZ just to plead guilty, then receive up to a $2500 maximum fine, he is going to skip the court date and just not go to AZ in the future.
This was a lawyer's advice. The lawyer said if he wanted to handle it, the lawyer fee would be $2k + he'd had to still pay the fine. The lawyer said a bench warrant would be issued for the state of AZ, but not nationally.
Anyone else ever skip a small criminal court date, or have any stories about it?
Yeah cause that's a great idea... says a lot about the attitude that got *him* arrested in the first place.
Think about this... if *he* ever have to apply for a security clearance or have to have a background check done for work - this will probably show up, and *he'll* be out of an opportunity.
*He* might think that'll never be the case, but you never know what will come your way. Decisions now affect opportunities in the future... and karma's a bitch - even if you don't believe in it.

+1 I hope you keep your promise to yourself and never go to AZ again. Because is you do you will have bigger charges against you.

Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.
Such is the human race, often it seems a pity that Noah... didn't miss the boat.
just wait for a year and the warrant will be outdated... unless they re-file for another one, you'll be just fine to go back to AZ... (this is how it is in Southern Illinois anyway)
I have been in a similar situation before, I lived in Cali. when I was younger. I got a traffic voilation and PAID the fine. Soon after the incident I moved back to MS. and forgot all about it. 10 years later I went to renew my MS. Drivers License and they said nope, you have an outstanding volation in Cali. I called over to Torrence to see what the problem was, they said I have a bench warrent for my arrest and I will most likely have to come back to California to get it taken care of.
Well of course I didnt have to receipt any more, so long story short I had to hire an attorney to handle the issue for me. Oh and by the way I had to pay the fine again too!

Actually, once a warrant is issued, its good for the rest of your life, or until it is served. The time limit on this doesn't count, after a while they may place it into archives, but it can be gotten to and still served. I personally have had several of these cases happen to me w/ from outta state I've arrested, and this is a small world, and for some reason or another, you'll have to go back to that state or one close by which they may place a hold on you for extridiction.

Yeap, you screw up, you gotta pay. I dont know about AZ, but just minor Traffic Tickets in Tx that are not handled become Suspended Licenses and Warrants in Kansas. Handle your business.

A lawyer is like a Doctor, get a second opinion. Now you'll have the existing charge(s), and a Failure to Appear(F.T.A.) warrant issued. And yes, will cost you more $$$$$$$$$$$ to take care of it then and possibly jail time, where it is doubtful the jail time would occur otherwise.
