A rolling road block is when your chasing a vehicle and you position one cruiser in front of the suspect car, and one on each side. You basically box in the vehicle and the all cruisers start slowing down forcing the suspect vehicle to slow down.
It does work sometimes, but is extremely dangerous, b/c your suspect car can ram your cruisers and if the suspect is armed your officers are in front of him and on each side making it easy targets to shoot the officers.

No, there is no chase, just highway construction...It happened every night they were re-doing the interstate...

I think we are talking about 2 different types of blocks. The one I am talking about is a pursuit tactic. Explain the construction. I think your talking about the big truck with the flashing lights that just roll down the construction lane. If so I have no idea, except maybe to provide some sort of protection for the guys in the road.

We are talking of two different things...I understand what you're describing, but it's different than what I'm referring to...
On interstate 4 in Florida, construction/widening of lanes is a way of life...This interstate has had more re-construction than Micheal Jackson's face
Anyway, in this paticular section of the construction, every night, the county would send two marked cars (one in each lane) to block all traffic behind them...They have all their lights turned on (no sirens), and just like a momma duck, slowly lead traffic for just a few miles through some of the construction zones at a very, very, very, very, very, very slow crawl...And then just pull to the side at a certain point and let traffic resume
What I don't understand is why...Because you still end up going through more active construction zones once they're done...

My only guess is the construction crew is paying the officers off duty to provide escort as a way of providing safety for their employees. I am not real sure.
We have one private company that does cement and they pay us over time to sit and watch the concrete dry. Talk about easy money. I bring a DVD pop it into my MDT and watch movies and make sure no one writes their name in the cement.

Written none, but my shepherd makes nice paw prints in it. Just have to remember to clean her feet right away.

I get caught in those ALL the time. I always figured they needed them so the construction crew could cross the Interstate safely with all of their equipment and such. I really have no idea though.
On a side note, they sure do suck. I hate I-4 traffic. They should have made it six lanes five years ago. Right now they should be in the process of making it ten, or at least eight. Why they are building the roads after all the houses is beyond me.
