Bicycle Officer From My Dept. Hit By Drunk Driver!!

Casey is fine other than some bruises and being sore. This is the second officer from my dept. in less than a year that has been struck by a motorist. Watch your 6 everyone!! BTW: Casey rides motorcycles also in his free time, some may remember last year I was trying to get him the information to repair the transmission on his R1.

A bike officer in Robertson County is recovering after a drunk driver hit him Saturday night.

Bike officer Casey Weaver was sitting at the intersection of 21st Avenue East and Blair Street when he was hit by a car.

State Troopers said Terwell Newden was the driver of that car. Newden admitted he had been drinking. He faces seven different charges, including reckless endangerment.

Officer Weaver was taken to the hospital with injuries to his leg. Officials expect him to be okay.

Glad to hear he's alright. Is the department going to bend the driver over and do him dry for hitting the bike cop?

Since it was a traffic collision involving a police officer the Tennessee Highway Patrol has to work the incident. They levied a huge stack of charges against the driver: DUI, Violation Implied Consent (blood testing), vehicular assault on a police officer (felony), driver's license violations, no insurance and a slew of others. And he will have to make restitution for damages to the officer's equipment and replacing the brand new Cannondale patrol bicycle Casey was on.

We were having people over the night it happened and Will/Officer had just got home from work when one of his co-workers keyed him up on Nextel. You could have heard a pin drop when we all heard an officer had been hit by a drunk driver. Three of the men there were officers from our department (including Will). JaiBirds wife and I both said how glad we were that night that all three of our guys were there safe but how scared we were for the hurt officer. We practically held our breaths till we heard they were ok and who the injured officers were. Really makes you think twice and appreciate how glad you are when your guy comes home safe at night.

Took a lunch break. Just saw Scooter, he's fine, said Case was doin O.K. He looked quite shaken up to me. But, I'm sure they'll recover, mentally it takes awhile longer than physically, in this case.

Drunk drivers infuriate me. They represent a very dangerous and real threat on today's roads. Seemingly every night when I listen to the local news, there's some report about a person MURDERED by some inebriated driver. The problem is that there is an absense of controls that prevent them from getting behind the wheel and a blatant tolerance on the part of lawmakers, at least in this state.

No tolererance for the wastes of sperm dumb enough to drive plastered. I hope you take turns "tryin to stop him" from slammin his face on his jail cell wall repeatedly until you get bored ummm..... i mean he gets bored of it.

The last Police Motorcycle wreck involved the Officers femur going through his buttocks...No thanks

They all ride brand new BMW's by the way..

My dept. was going to buy some motor units a few years ago and then a motor officer in a neighboring city got killed because a driver turned in front of him. Chief nixxed that idea!! Said he would rather have the officers safely riding in cars. In the past couple of weeks we have had the bicycle officer get hit by a drunk driver, the Asst. Chief and his car was hit by a drunk driver and a patrol car was hit by drunk driver!!

Update on our officer! He is back to work with minor injury but seems to be doing pretty good !!!

Hey you can flame me if you want...But how come the "Department levied a huge stack of charges against the driver" including restitution when a LEO is involved, but when Joe Biker gets run over, we are lucky if the offender is even charged with causing the accident, let alone assualt charges or restitution???
