Exclamation High Speed Pursuits May Become a Thing of the Past.

I've thought about this years ago. Disabling a vehicle by EMP. A Nuke does a EMP pulse that kills all electronics over a large aera, but nuking a speeder wont go over real big with the public

Now they have the tech to make a pistol type device that is aimable to disable electronics selectivly. If and when it becomes feasable/affordable it could prevent a chase from even starting....

Read the ABC news report here --> http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Fut...=538452&page=1

Word to the wise, if you plan on a high speed pursuit make sure to use a vehicle with a points and coil ignition or a magneto

I don't like the idea of these things being put into use. What about the people that have pacemakers, insulin pumps, embeded defibulators(sp?) and other medical equipment that is required for medical reasons. What if an officer misses? Will the government pay to replace said high dollar items? What about people in the car with the suspect? The whole idea of a police officer accidentally frying my insulin pump and then saying he didn't do it leaving me with a replacement bill that costs more than my bike just doesn't sound like a good idea.

If you don't run you really don't have much to worry about. Just like any other intervention, there has to be set protocols in place that need to be closely followed.

Yeah,I can see a few black market units being mounted facing rearward on some bikes.
It could go both ways.

Well, that makes me a moron. I used to, but I can no longer afford to stop for every cop that pulls me over for nothing in Orlando and nit picks till he finds anything to ticket for. I would definitely revise my ignition system to avoid interference from "authorities". Do you feel guilty about using radar detectors?

soon they will come from the factory with black boxes like OnStar that you can't disable because the engine diagnostics run through it and they will be equipped with GPS and remote control...If you run, they will shut you down...My Wife's '06 Saturn is set up this way...they can find it anywhere, anytime and if they can open the switches to the door locks remotely...it's not a stretch to shut the power off...

Ya it would be wonderful to have a 500lb unit mounted on your bike... as the disabled cop car coasts to a stop he could run you over trying to flee with your 1000# plus bike bottomed out. If that didnt happen the device's huge electrical draw would certainly kill the bikes insufficient power supply
