Off-duty crash injures deputy

A Spartanburg County sheriff's deputy was in fair condition at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Monday after an off-duty motorcycle crash.
Anthony Lachica was airlifted to the hospital after the wreck Sunday near Landrum in the area of Highway 14 and Fairwinds Road.
Lachica is an investigator with the department's major crime unit, Maj. Dan Johnson said.
"We've been told that he may be in the hospital until Wednesday. Other than that, we do not know even when he might return to work," Johnson said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, authorities said.
Lachica was operating the motorcycle, but information on whether he was riding alone could not be confirmed.
Authorities said the cause of the crash was under investigation, and no charges had been filed.
Lance Cpl. Steve Sluder with the Highway Patrol said a report by the investigating trooper was not available Monday afternoon.
Sluder said it is not uncommon for troopers who work Friday, Saturday and Sunday to have Monday off and take their reports home with them.
