Default Kansas passes concealed carry law

Our state just recently passed the concealed carry law after the govenor vetoed it. Does your state have this and what are your thoughts on it? Just incase you are not familiar with the term, this law will allow qualified people to obtain a permit to carry a hidden weapon on their person.

I agree with that. I believe that when Florida passed it, the violent crimes dropped.

I didnt have a problem with the law. The way I look at it, those people I dont want to have a gun already have them.

Information only: I didnt vote for her.

Tn. has had the handgun permits for a while now (close to 10 years). I think anyone that can legally carry a gun should, just let me know if I walk up on you

Every state has different requirements to get the license. Packing.org lists the requirements for each state. I agree with being able to carry concealed as long as the person applying for the permit receives some form of training. It isn't the ones that carry legally that I worry about. MD it is very hard to get a permit, SC people are required to take a safety course and qualify before a permit can be issued, WA state pictures and a photo is all you need. I had permits in both states, before I became a cop in MD.

MI (my home state) requires a safety class and proficiency test. I am IN FAVOR of this, even though the process costs in excess of $400 most the time (why i dont have one).

The reasoning being- in Indiana, where i live now- you pay 20 bucks and they have to give you one with a background check. And you only have to be 18.

You dont even need to know which end the bullets come out of. I was in Gander Mountain and this 18 y.o. high school kid was bragging about carrying a gun with him all the time. TOTALLY irresponsible. (and not concealed- durrrr....)

Makes me very nervous.... you should need training. End of story.

they passed the law AFTER the governor veteod it?? or did the governor veto it after the legislator tried to pass it?
btw--I'm totally in favour of it, but it would NEVER happen in Canada. Our politicians are WAY too big pussies. They were actually considering a total BAN on owning handguns, even for target practice, untill the new Conservative gov. came in.

We've got a good CCW program here in AZ. You have to go to a class and they actually watch you fire a few rounds so be sure you know what you're doing. I think it's a great thing, people little bit less apt to get stupid if they know you might have a .45 under that jacket!!

I want to get mine ASAP. At this point though the MSF is my priority. Plus I would still need to buy a gun.

here in Utah it is interesting I still havent decided whether I agree totally with it or not but....

there is no open carry without a CCW and car carry the gun as to be unloaded with the bullets locked in one container and the gun locked in another as opposed to most states 2 lock rule but you can have loaded.

Unless you are CCW than you can carry in the car as you see fit

But also I had to demonstrate that I could pull the weapon from concealment about 20 times.

I would stand there and dude would leave me hanging for about 3- 5 minutes and go NOW! than I would have to unconceal draw and shoot in like under 8 seconds or something like that. It was fun LOL. kind of annoying but fun.

Oh and side note. a compact 357 mag that only weighs 12 onces really hurts when you put hydra shok in it. Every one at the range turns and looks though even the 45 guys LOL

We've had a CCW program for as long as I can remember and I'm 26 years old.

On a side note, everyone that is a sworn LEO, or retired LEO can carry any all 50 states thanks to HR 218 passed two years ago.

This may bring up another thread, but I'm not a big fan of fast small moving bullets. I'll take my slow ass 3/4" expanded round when hits .45 over a small, fast moving bullet anyday.

I have a nice 9mm Springfield Armory XD-9 that Officer got for my birthday last year. I don't have a carry permit so I don't carry it yet. I plan on taking the class soon with one of the other police officer's wives. I've been hesitant because I have been fighting the where and how to carry my gun. I normally wear skirts only so...I think in the winter I will probably use some form of shoulder holster and hell I don't know what in the warmer seasons. Officer is really against me carrying in my purse and I don't like that idea either. He says I walk away from or turn my back on my pocketbook too much and it would be too unsafe.
I'm all for the conceal and carry law!!
