i suppose here in ks it could be a violation of the S.T.O. sec. 138 sub section c. it states:

A person shall ride upon a motorcycle only while sitting astride the seat, facing forward, with one leg on each sie of the motorcycle.

now i couldnt see stopping some one that is simply trying to get some air down there but im sure it could happen. its all on how its taken

Good thread, what about in Texas? I know you don't have to wear a helmet around here. (With proper paper work, age, and what not.)

If you stand up for a brief moment to let things air out you are probably okay, but start doing tricks and shit and then you might have problem. ( I am willing to bet next week someone will post a thread pertaining to FTP because they were trying to get some air and a cop wrote them a ticket).

I remember from the MSF that they taught the class to rise up off the seat slightly when you are going over large bumps, RR tracks, a piece of debris, etc.
I don't see how that could be construed as illegal, as long as you aren't riding like that for miles.
FWIW, I sometimes do that when I'm going slowly because my pants ride up. It's easier than trying to yank the pant legs down, though it would probably look like I'm shaking my ass to anyone behind me.

MD Traffic Article 21-1302(d) states "Riding position--A person may ride on a motorcycle only while sitting astride the seat, facing forward, with one leg sitting on each side of the motorcycle"

MSF also told us to rise off the seat when going over tracks and bumps etc, but there is a difference in rising 2 inches off and standing almost all the way up. I often rise up to let the boys breath and/or to fix my pants. I have seen riders do it when in a patrol car and I won't stop them, but that doesn't mean someone else won't.

Same here.

I'm sure plenty of guys here have either rode/raced in hot July weather in leather pants. You NEED to have a chance to get up on those pegs and let everything fall back into place!

FTP! I was riding one day while standing up and got pulled over by some monkey wearing a badge. He ticketed me for some bullshit charge and I had to pay $8923492349234978237834857234 to get out of it and had 49823498723497435 points added to my license!

Good enough for you Ossifer?
