Not that I could even do a wheelie if I wanted too with my current ride, but from what I am reading here its illegal to bring the front wheel up? If so thats somthing I'll keep in mind when I move up in bikes.

Yes, it is illegal to bring the front wheel up. It is called reckless driving which is what he is being charged for. Kinda sucks though. I know i've done it by accident a few times.

It's basically what the person interprets as reckless. Riding a 2foot wheelie for a couple of secs. might constitute that. They can articulate that the rider did not have full control of the vehicle, especially if done by accident.

I wasn't going to go with hiring an attorney until several people suggested it. I think I will just go and try to plead to a lesser charge. What exactly is the law on this? I know I'm not suppossed to do wheelies and I'm not whining because I got caught, I do wheelies intentionally sometimes (just learning how), it's about time it caught up with me. I don't think I'll be doing them anymore though. But as far as I know, the law says you have to maintain control of your vehicle. Well, I know lots of people that can ride a wheelie many many feet and still maintain control. In an instance like this, where it was a small wheelie over a period of several seconds and brought it back down quickly, riding several miles before being pulled over, at what point does the wheelie cause lack of control? Or does reckless itself constitute keeping all wheels on the ground? It seems to me that in the case of responsible riders, having teh ability to do wheelies, stoppies, etc really teaches you about balance and how to handle a biuke along with its limitations, and some of them can really ride more safely. On the other hand, i know there are lots of dudes who don't know squat about riding and are just trying to show off or have fun and they do cause accidents, as well as a bad name for all us other sport enthusiasts.

ps officer737 I'm travelling to Knoxville this weekend (in the car), is that anywhere near where you live? (just curious)

greetings D,
i will have to respectfully diagree with all the above mentioned. Another rule is that even if you are guilty as sin you never ever admit your guilt. Even if the officer is a cool guy they take very specific notes and a judge might not interpret what you said the same way an enforcement officer will. Being truthfull and honest will get you a by the book judgment. Yes sir you are guilty of what you say. but since you are honest i will give you a break. ( bullsh&^%)
The judge may thank you for your honesty and cordially hand you the minimum.

If you broke the law be a man admit your guilt and pay society. If you in your heart you suspect foul play fight it with your life. it is your integrity.

p.s. i will pay my lawyer big bucks to throw bullsh^%# like this out of court. maybe a bit more expensive but you are clean in the books and in your heart. If you really did a weelie on purpose than you should pay the fine and stand up like a man.

regards,
m..ad

the girl with a badge trying to show off for the other male officers?!! come on are you kidding me. is that really the best that could be made up for the reason of stop?! anyways. now that im done with my ranting....

reckless driving here is a combination of violations or environmental factors. in ks you can not get reckless driving for speeding alone. however, you can get it for speeding in a school zone. could be running some one off of the road while passing in a no passing on a hill. do you see where im going with this? i would find out what the definition and requirements are in your state and find out if they were met. could get the whole thing thrown. just remember if you messed up, step up.

it may or may not be listed on this site www.lexisnexis.com they print the law books for most states. A wheelie falls under the same scrutiny as squealing tires. They are going to say the action shows you did not have full control of the "vehicle". If you said you accidently picked the front wheel up then you did not have full control of the bike. If you say you had control then their stance will be that the action alone was enough wanton disregard for public safety. If you were clocked running 120 on the back wheel, I would say get an attorney but you weren't. You can do the exact same thing they can do you just need to know your local courtroom's proceedure. Go sit in on the court before your court date and see how ther proceedure works so when you get there for your case you will know how it works. I am willing to bet they offer a deal without even asking. The more cases the courts can get through as easily as possible the happier they are. I am pretty sure you are not going to be able to find a legal loophole for this though. Rarely will you ever see anyone getting nailed for the max. Hell I know a guy that shot at 4 people in a vehicle (2 were children) and then shot at a cop, he got 2 years of un-supervised probation!

I could not plead guilty to "Reckless Driving" for popping a little wheelie.
Man, reckless is trying to outrun the cops or weaving through traffic or
like cutting people off?
Is there a lesser charge of breaking the showing off code or speeding with
intent to look cool? The man is not down with the sportbike subculture,
it's discrimination! Sue the city! We are the victims! Stop hate against
sportbikes! Feminazi sportbike envy discrimination!
