Default Officer737.... possible way to beat a speeding ticket?

Ok... I have this thought.

Lets say the speed limit is 65mph. By definition this means it should take me an hour to travel 65 miles.

Now when the police radar you going 85 it is at one single moment in time. What if I slow down, and after traveling for an hour I've traveled 65 miles. I haven't broken the law. I went 65 miles/hour. In order to actually give me a ticket and it hold up, wouldn't the officer have had to watch how far I traveled in an hour's time?

In order to ticket us for a single moment in time wouldn't we have to monitor our velocity instead of miles/hour?

I don't know if I stated it as clearly as I am thinking it, but you get the picture, right?

I get the picture bro. You make a good point but the was the law makers view it is that at that particular moment you were traveling in a measured speed that was faster than the permitted speed in that area established by the road engineers. The mph is just the measurement used to indicate how far a person can travel at that constant speed. When you change your speeds then it is no longer constant. Not sure if I explained it right or not was a long shift last night

You make a great argument though!!

You are talking about average velocity in mph. The only problem is the PD doesn't look at average velocity, they only care about instantaneous velocity. Your velocity was 85mph at the time the radar was transmitting, thus you get a ticket.

BTW.... I did't get a ticket.. lol....
In the morning show on the radio today they were interviewing a guy from the Highway Patrol and talking about speeding tickets and what not and how (I think it was Arizona) installed speeding cameras on the interstate and issued 11,000 some warnings in like the first month or something. They expect the cameras to bring in $100,000.00 per month!

Got me thinking how to beat them.

Officer... maybe if you are ever in the neighborhood. (AND give me a get out of jail free card if I am ever in Tennessee... )

To beat a speeding ticket you've gotta ditch the ground unit(s) before air support arrives.... ;)

On the 101 here in AZx.....cover your plate...

ok i think this varies from state to state and police guy you can agree or dissagree with this i donno if it is true... I was told that if you get a ticket instead of going to court, you pay all the fines, but make sure you over pay by a couple of dollars. This way they cant close out the case because all debts have not been fofilled, so when they send you the check back of the coulple dollars just tear it up, and dont cash it out. by doing this the court is happy because you payed them, the PO-9 is happy because they got there money but it will never hit your insurance in the long run.

There is also something else called prayer for Judgement in NC, if you go to court you tell the judge that you want prayer for judgement, and if you have a fairly clean record you will only have to pay the court cost and it will not hit your insurance, the catch to it is that if you get caught again that ticket comes back up and you get hit twice as hard when you go to court the second time.

i think i said that all right, sorry if it doesnt make sence i just came off of a 24 hr shift

Not quite sure about the check thing, I have never heard of that. Most places when you send the payment in you have accepted guilt and are paying it in lieu of going to court. If you overpay then they send the excess back they have completed their end of it whether you cash the check or not and it goes on your driving record and they consider the case as being closed.

Interesting working on prayer for judgement Here they call it knolle. Basically meaning they continue the case for a pre-determined amount of time and if you have no other tickets for the same thing during that time they dismiss the charge and it stays off your MVR. If you get a subsequent citation for the same thing, they re-instate the first citation and you have to defend yourself against both cases.

Bend da plate up and with a lil help from your left foot and right hand your speeding ticket problem will be solved. That however is opening a whole new can of worms.
