Default Sooo...

I completed an application for the Sheriffs department thinking I had no chance....Well I just got a letter saying my app is "under consideration" and I will need to conduct a registration and written exam next month to continue the application process.

Do they normally inform all applicants of this written exam or do they actually narrow it down a bit first? And what should I expect as far as the exam? Any help is appreciated. This is something that really means alot to me, especially since I was turned down by the military, which I was going to use as my way into law enforcement.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Sorry bro, was caught in instant message land. If they have it under consideration that is a good sign. That means they are selective in their testing of people and it is not just open to anyone. The written test will be about 3 hours or so. Will be something like a listening retention test, reading comprehension and personality questions. The ones that pass that might be required to do a physical test, interviews, polygraph, drug screen, psychological and med exam before they offer the job. But you have got your foot in the door

Sounds good. I believe it consists of 4 sections: mathematics, reading comp., language skills, and report writing.

Im currently doing engineering math and my father is an english major and has drilled me my entire life on things like grammar, spelling, etc.

Should be no problem.

I believe they give the ones that score 80% or higher overall a phys. exam next, and then proceed with interviews and the real eliminator, the "psyche exam."

Bro we already know you are psycho!!!

In the English part/report writing direct and simple sentences. If it is a true report they want make it simple: date, time, location and straight to the point what happened.
You should have the math with no problem. Might be some map reading too, like a city map they give you starting point and end location, findest the most direct route that doesn't violate one way and such. Reading comp should be pretty easy to. On questions that are opinions, go with your first instinct!

Sounds awesome! I was always thinking of applying for the PD but here you have to be 24 to apply, but best of luck to you.
