Default Finding out what's required on bikes.

Where can I go online or talk to in person to find out what is required equipment for a bike in my state? I know all this varies from state to state. Things like mirrors, blinkers, headlight on during the day, helmet, speedometer, and other things might be all required in one state, but the next state might not require everything.

I was just curious. The other day after getting the front end of my bike back together I took it for a little ride to make sure everything was OK before I completely reassembled the bike. I didn't have any of the front fairing on, so that meant I didn't have a headlight, front blinkers, or mirrors. I was just curious if I was running illegally, or if it was OK to ride like this.

I swear I saw more cops that day than most other days. I didn't get stopped, so that made me wonder even more.

I live in Michigan and worked in Wisconsin (student co-op job) and i bought an old race bike. It had headlights, tail light, but no blinkers. Im 99% sure you dont have to have blinkers, but make sure to use your handy dandy hand signals for turning... i rode like that for a whole season and never got pulled over..

the easy way is to go on your state's dept. of motor vehicles website. Most have their motorcycle manual on there with what is required for the bike to be "road worthy".

Just about all that I have had require headlight, tail light, blinkers, driver and passenger foot pegs, at least 1 mirror and it has to be the left one, etc.......

Blinkers not requiered in most states. Most states require a light that is white to be shining on the plate. I taped a flashlight there for my inspection.

If you don't have a platelight I would go to summitracing and buy theyre license plate bolts with led plate lights in them. I bought them for my bike and they are awesome. They are a bolt that holds the plate on and they have an led light that shines out the side of it on the plate. Just letting you know because all you need is to have a cop be behind you at night and see you don't have a light and pull you over.

On the other hand most things needed for inspection is what is required. But it is mostly a judgement call for the officers. I have been at a hangout where cops were looking over bikes registrations and inspection stickers and they told my buddy to bend his plate down that was very easily viewable (about a 30* angle) when he didn't say a word about no mirrors on my bike.
