From time to time we all get some form of legal issue we might need a little advice, if so post it up in here!! Someone is bound to have some good solid advice. On something very serious make sure to check with an attorney in youe state because laws may sometimes vary from state to state. SO post'em up and let's see if we can help!

Hey I actually do have a legality issue. I tried asking the cop at school but he didn't know. Does anyone know what the deal is with pocket bikes and road use, specifically the 110cc ones with lights, a horn and blinkers? I have heard that they can be registered as mopeds in some states. I live on a road which nobody ever drives on so this would be kinda cool....

Go to your local DMV and get a motorcycle driver's handbook. In there will be a list of requirements for street legal bikes. Most are tags, turn signals, mirrors, exhaust systems, certain engine CCs and bike height.

Tenn. is kind of open. Bikes that are required to have tags are ones that are bigger than 49cc, turn signals, rear light with a working brake light, mirrors, functional exhaust muffler, headlight and the bike/seat height varies by manufacturer. Hope this helps.

Definetly check your DMV. I asked a state cop about this because I was going to get one for my son. He told me as far as the state was concerned, it doesn't need tags, inspection, etc, and the operator doesn't need a license if the vehicle will not go over 40mph. HOWEVER, each locality can set it's own (more restrictive) rules if they wish. My county basically told me, if it has an engine, it needs tags, inspection, etc, and a licensed driver in order to be on a county street. Regardless of it's speed. The only thing legal is those electric skooters and pocket bikes, and I understand, they're trying to make them illegal as well. To many kids getting hit on them.

Yeah the height is what is getting them hurt most times. Kinda hard to see something less than 3 feet tall and running 30-50 mph.

In Mass. mopeds are defined as bikes with 50 cc or less displacement and a top speed of 30 mph. Larger displacements or speeds require full registration, inspection and insurance.
