Howdy,

Just traded my 2005 RC51 for an '09 F800GS, because I've got some big traveling to do. I got it with a centerstand, heated grips, and the trip computer. It had clear turn signal lenses, too, but don't care about those.

I realize it's not a traditional sportbike, but wondered if any of y'all have one, or know of someone who does? I'm curious as to other mods to it, and how they've worked: Suspension, aftermarket intake or exhaust, etc.? I don't think the brakes need any help....

Thank you,

Cam

Hello, and WELCOME! Good choice. I test rode a GS last October and it was AWESOME!

Im interested in this bike for the same reasons. It looks like a awesome bike. My only concern is power. Is it enough to satisfy a 600 supersport owner?

Thumbs up

Thank you for the link to the goodies!

Additionally, I think it will have enough power to keep you happy as a 600 rider. I'm still on the break-in [limit 5k rpm], but it's a very torquey motor that makes power quite differently than an inline-4. Took it to the mountains yesterday and rode for 200 miles in total. It was great fun - it steers SO much more quickly than my RC51, is very stable, and the torque pretty much launches you out of the curves. Lots of grins.

In straight line speed it will be slower - it might do 130 mph, but I doubt you could exceed that.

Most BMW dealerships let you test-ride their bikes, so if you've got a strong interest, you should go ride one.

A couple of caveats: The wind protection isn't great, and the bike is quite tall. With the standard seat, >34" off the ground. The lower seat, 32.something" does help, but it's lowered via foam removal, so you trade off comfort.

Good luck.

You will find the torque and powerband quite "user friendly" making it easy to ride fast thru the curves.

I plan to ride one across europe this summer on vacation
