Love to have one, only the price is estimated to be around 20K I think. Way to rich for my wallet.

They can't race their 1200 inline-4s (too much displacement) so they race the boxer instead.

If they are better, and faster. Then why did BMW get 5th overall in the 24 hour race in La Mans...
You can't judge a book by its cover.
I know a couple of people who are racing BMW Motorcycles in the USA. And they all are beating Jap bikes.
One of the best examples is the video below. Fellow racer Nate Kern, goes on a track in California for the first time. Is placed in the very back.... 34th place I think. And finishes 6th.
AFM Open Twins - Infineon Raceway 08/19/07
&q=NAte+Kern&total=36&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1
First lap is just warm up. Go to 3:25... thats the start of the race...

This is fine if they move your heart, which is more important.
Better? For what?
Cheaper? Yes, cheaper when you buy it, cheaper when you sell it.
Faster? Some are content to keep things below 160mph. It is delivery below this that counts, not high strung delivery up high.

Okey,let me make myself clear.
Cheaper. They are cheaper when you buy, cheaper when you sell ,cheaper when you maintain, cheaper when you fall, cheaper when you go to service, cheaper when you get insurance...This is important for me cause i don't have too much money in the bank.
Better. They are better for me because when i am getting a new bike i look at the stats. How much it weights? How many horsepower in it?What is the price? The other things for example Le Mans race ,i really don't care because i am just a street rider not a pro-racer.Last question:If BMW is so good ,how come they won't produce a 800cc bike(you know they have 800st) and race with the japanese bikes?

Well actually, riding both Asian liter bikes and BMWs, ummm, and some other stuff in the barn, BMW service costs, especially with the easy to access heads and maintenance free shaft (No chains or sprockets) are no more expensive than my sportbike Hondas, and insurance is significantly lower than the Asian bikes... not even close. Squidly riders on race replica Asian bikes drive insurance costs sky high in the States. The BMW three year full warrantee versus typical one year is also nice.
If you're a street rider, this is where BMW shines. Munich recognizes 99% of sportbikes never see a track. From thoughtful ergos, to ABS, paralever/telelever, heated grips, acc sockets, gear indicators, shaft, etc. and etc., the bike sporting over delivers on the road. This is routinely noted and called out in reviews. I get a kick out of hanging with anyone (And then some) on local sportbike club rides, and then while my buds are calling it a day after several hours on the high strung race replicas, us on the BM's are off to more in the afternoon.
Strange question about 800cc. They just introduced this cc, and they just got into a few factory supported endurance races with the 1200cc boxer plant. Street versus race focus has routinely been the emphasis (Surely you know this), though they have announced plans to enter WSB in 2009 with a new bike.

SJ BMW Racing
1) Go to the site about
2) Go to to far left, second to top "Race Bikes" click it
3) Go to the Yellow F800S-GST(Moto-ST)
4) Click it.
This little bike has only 81hp to the rear tire. Belt driven and 401lbs dry.
Racing against 600cc, and 1000cc, got 4th over-all. The race was called off early, and the people putting on the race lost the position the bike was in, it WAS in 2nd. But they put it in fourth.
Ohh also, that was its first race.
And yes, BMW is entering World Superbike in 2009, with the 190/190 project.
190kg wet, 190hp to the rear wheel. This is for the street version. I wonder what the race version will be like.

In 2009 BMW is coming out with a 1000cc inline 4, for World Superbike.
