Trade 1987 Supra, Targa top many many extras
A buddy of mine wants to get into bikes, we have always been building cars since freshman year of high school. This supra has been his project for a year or so. Its a 1987 supra targa top(which means the top comes off). The car isnt running, he blew a hole in piston 3 and 5 and it needs a head gasket, about 800dollars in work all together, it also needs a new turbo and could use an intercooler which will run anywhere from 600-2000 dependeing on the power you want. Now for the good, the body is perfect no rust, the car has new twin turbo supra rims, usually go for 800 for a set wrapped in 9 and 1/2inch wide tires in the back. The engine was built by jasper racing about 8kmiles ago, the trans was rebuilt at the same time and the trans can handle 600+hp. The electronic suspension, rear end with 3.73 gears, big brake kit, cooling system lines, oil lines and brake lines were all replaced 10kmiles ago. The exhaust is a 3inch downpipe/up pipe, no cats to tip, with a new turbo header. Has a 3 guage pilar, boost controller, turbo timer, and new stereo. The car made 368rwhp with a 57trim turbo at 14psi, the block can handle 1000+hp but the pistons cant. Everything on this car is setup to handle atleast 600rwhp except the internals, the head was ported and polished and the cams are bigger than stock. With 368rwhp it ran a 12.6 @ 112mph with street tires, not drag radials or slicks. The car has about 8grand in parts and needs about 1k-1500more to be a low 12 second car again. With forged internals and a good size turbo the sky is the limit. Hes really just looking for a good running nice looking sport bike so just post what you wanna trade for. Car is located in Oak Creek WI, at his machine shop, the engine is taken apart at his house also in Oak Creek, we can put it back together or give it to you stripped down with all the parts. Thanks

I didnt say it doesnt need work, all engine work, eveything else is setup and ready to go. If you wanted to buy the parts im sure he would install all of them for you, thats how bad he wants a bike. Like i said it would be 1-2k in parts depending on what you buy, a rebuilt kit is 500, a good head gasket is 250, you can get a used turbo kit for 500 or a new one for 1500, or a really really nice one that could produce 800rwhp for 3-4k but then you would also need forged internals. Im not the owner so no i dont have pics i can get some. A body this clean i have seen g ofor 3500-400k with no engine or transmisson with the stock rear end and brake system.

I hate to say it but I don't think this car is worth that. I own a pretty nice 87 turbo hardtop. (600rwhp) and for a non running shell which is what this is range from $200 to $1500
I bought a non turbo running driving supra for $200 that just needed a windshield and some paint work.
GL though.

Yeah, I doubt you'll get a decent bike for trade. At least not a recent (2000+) SS. Good luck.

Your right it is non running, but its hardly a shell, 2k into the rear end, 1500 in to the tranny, 4500 into the engine, yes it is blown up so obviously that amount is lower now. 2k into the brake system, 1500 into the suspension, over 1k into oil lines and hoses. 1500in rims and tires. 1500 in guages and electronics. Thats alot of money into this car and like i said all it needs is the proper powerplant and its done, no body work, no electrical, no drivetrain work needed. All the numbers i gave are parts with less than 15kmiles on them. Its 11000 without the 4500 for the engine included because it needs work now, the 11000 is all parts except 500 in labor because a shop did the tranny work, we did everything else. 15,500k with the engine work included and then 2k for the targa top body itself with no rust or damage. Thats 17,500 grand into the car and all he is asking for is a 2-4kbike, i think thats a pretty good deal. Everything on the car was built to handle 600+rwhp, it just needs a powerplant that can produce it.

As much as it may be a good deal, it's common knowledge, that any money you sink into a car, is money you're not getting back. I've got an 87 turbo targa with bearings that are shot (Everything else is salvageable, and the block isn't too bad...if it were me, ild replace the longblock, but it's not necessary). With a $800 cat back, and 12 wheels (6 stock, 6 off a 94 mk4 tt). Where the wheels and exhaust together can land me 1400, and ill be lucky if I can manage that by selling the car as a whole. I may have to throw the stock stuff back, just to try and make some money back on the aftermarket stuff.
Cash into cars or bikes, is cash turned into emotion...and you don't make money back on emotion.

Lol, i understand that money you put into your car you dont get ALL of it back. But its not like you put 15kinto a car and then ask for what the car goes for stock, you get more than a stock one. There is 15k into this car and hes not looking to get a 08 bike hes looking for a 3-4k bike not a 15kbike like the money he has into the car.
