This is my first foray into this pasta-laden enclave. Smells like garlic and fine wine in here.....nice.
I encountered one of these RS250 strokers yesterday while riding my Fizzer at the NC/SC line on my way to Asheville. The gal riding it had low-sided on a left hander onto the highway, and I helped get it into her b/f's truck and home. She is ok, btw. Minor injuries in what turns out was her first crash. Good to get that one out of the way, huh?
Anybody know much about these things? The b/f, shown here on the bike in the pick up bed, said he got it in California, and he says it is street legal.... I didn't hear it run, but I pushed it up the ramp and into the truck and it was AS LIGHT AS A FEATHER!
I thought this might be the place to go to find out some more info, so do tell!
Very rare in the US. Street legal versions are even rarer.
Parts are hard to come by and I believe the motor is based off of the Suzuki RGV.
IF you can get ahold of one, find your person to properly maintain it and line up your parts source they are a fine handling two stroke.
Do you know anything about Aprilia?
It can be a hard bike to own. Not always for the rice grinder crowd...

Very cool and rare bike. Quite popluar overseas though & you'll see a good handfull in some club racing scenes... A buddy of mine tried selling me his but I wouldn't have been able to give him a fair amount of money for it.
Well set-up they go for about 5-6 grand used. I prefer to race w/ cheaper bikes than that

THAT expensive? Geez....the B/F had given her that bike as her first. It was her LEARNER ride. She only has about two months under her belt! That and the MSF Basic class....

Sportbike: a few...but 2003 RC51 usually
I saw one with a blown engine (easily replaced from what I understand) for $1800 on craigslist once...
It was gone in 30 minutes...

^^yup it was in Norcal. I already lined up someone to go pick it up. By the time I called (20 minutes after the ad was posted) he already had someone on their way to look at it...
i was a little upset...That's one 2-stroke I would NOT have problems riding

The last stroker I rode was a fossil dirt bike from back in my fetal days...
I have no idea how something with the throttle response of a chain-saw and that weighs as little as that bike I pushed into that truckbed Saturday would actually be like to ride on the street.....
As others have said: it is a hard bike to come by (and the cheaper ones are usually gone before you know it), and the parts are kind of hard to come by (There are a few dealerships/stores that sell parts or can get parts for that bike, one being a place in Texas, whom are pretty big on the U.S. Ape side). The street legal side of it can be argued, mostly because there are some counties that don't require Emissions Testing and/or an inspection.
I have been looking into getting/ researching a beginner motorcycle over the past year or so (as soon as I sign up, take, and pass the MSF Course), and it's smaller brother is what I have looked / still am looking at (The RS50, along with many other recommended beginner motorcycles).
That is just my Two Cents (which you can't buy anything with), and good luck with whatever route you decide to take.
Given that 2smokes dont have much if anything in the way of engine braking, she probably shit ninja's and grabbed a fistload of front brake...
Good but often tempremental bikes, with shitty suspension from factory, but great trackies...just dont back off the throttle coming into Turn1, things can get nasty.

Street legal RS250's are extremely rare, I've actually never seen a legitimate street legal in all 50 states one for sale. I would certainly have one if they were even reasonably priced in street legal form. Expect to pay near 5 figures for a clean RS250.

Have mine listed on Craigslist right now....Aprilia RS250 (99)
Trying to free up some money for the next vise. I'm an old man as you can see....50. More of a collector than anything else
