Default "Homeland Security?"

Ok, I'm not sure how this is going to come across, but here goes...

Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere, I've been busy and haven't been trolling P&R as I should.

I never paid much attention to the tinfoil hat brigade, whether it be here or on other websites I frequent, but I've come across something that has been echoed back and forth as a possible scenario within these circles, and it seems to be legit - at least at this point:

Brigade homeland tours start Oct. 1 - Army News, opinions, editorials, news from Iraq, photos, reports - Army Times

The article is also referenced here:
US Army unit deployed to home front • The Register

as well as several other sites.

Alex Jones was (allegedly) the first to bring this into the spotlight on infowars.com, a bastion of scatterbrained conspiracy nuts. I've always taken much of what he's said as half-intelligible rants, and I never thought to bookmark anything because I was hoping it was just another theory that deserved little thought. But I can recall six, twelve, even 18 months ago that the tinfoil hat brigade was hypothesizing our current situation:

An extremely upset population, unpopular wars, global tension, economic meltdown, government grabs for power and elimination of oversight, a militarized force patrolling American streets, and a possible postponement of the presidential elections.

And now we have McCain "suspending" his campaign. He needs all the help he can get, how is this going to benefit him? I don't believe excuses that he's doing it because he's needed to help fix the economy. If anybody in Washington needs help crashing a car into a farmer's market, they'll call McCain. Otherwise he can sit on the Straight Talk Express and bumble on about how he spent 5 years in a POW camp, a little known fact.

And on top of that, this story of domestic deployment of military forces has gone beyond the confines of mom's basement and Alex Jones circlejerks, and is making its way into mainstream media.

There are a lot of normal people that are on edge about this.
