Good choice on the Ninja 500. I started on a 500 and rode it for several years honing my skills. Many times on the twisties, I would be faster then the bigger boys only to be blown past when the road straightened.
When the time came and I thought it was time for a bigger, faster bike, I realized that I still had a 1/4 of a twist left to full throttle. In time I did get a 1990 ZX-7 and now a 2008 GSXR-750. Still, my 500 was a fun and forgiving bike which became a little faster with a few mods.
