I second the notion that you should definitely look into gear and MSF. I did, and I'm glad I did. I don't think i'd be half as careful if I hadn't done all of those things, and they teach you A LOT. I just bought my first bike in April, an 07 250 and I'm happy with it. It's a great starter bike and the 08+ models are beautiful.
My boyfriend doesn't ride because he doesn't want to. He's really anti-motorcycles... don't know why, but he just has no interest in it. He's cool that I ride, but I know I'll never ever get him on his own. I don't know what to tell you about your hubby being jealous since my other half clearly isn't jealous. haha.
