Daytona Motorsports Group unveiled their plans for the NASCARization of AMA Superbike and road racing series for 2009.

The premier class becomes "Daytona Superbikes" which will include a very wide array of machinery from different manufacturers, from a BMW 1200 to a Japanese four-cylinder 600. Daytona Superbike will be horsepower limited and power to weight ratio limited--with the bikes being weighed with rider. Daytona Superbike will be regulated to improve parity and competition, including regular ECU exchanges. Only “homologated, available and affordable aftermarket components” will be allowed.

Sounds OK, but 'Daytona' Superbikes will mostly be generic and regulated 600cc I-4 machines, straight from NASCAR's 'Car of Tomorrow' handbook. This is the 'premier' class? I said four years ago this was coming.
The 'LiterBike' class will become a supporting role, like Superstock, but with spec tires and spec fuel. BUT... there will be "minimum and maximum levels required to maintain eligibility.” Each
manufacturer will have to enter four riders in the class to be eligible, and there will be a limit as to how many of each brand can compete. So no longer can all the privateers ride GSXRs, or whatever.
On a positive note the MotoST series and the Red Bull Rookies Cup (currently two-strokes!) will join the series.
