I had long hair back when I first started riding, and ended up getting a huge matted knot in it from the wind and stuff. Finally cut it all off and moved on, but I'm a guy. My best advice is to brush it before and after, and keep it well conditioned. Also, using multiple ponytail thingys like the old harley guys do will help keep it from getting tangled, as well!
