Speaking in Milwaukee, Wis., on Monday, she said, “People in this country are ready for change and hungry for a different kind of politics and … for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.”

Foolish thing to say for sure. It is virtually impossible for even the most seasoned politicians not to get tripped up by their words. That's why it is especially dangerous to let others speak on your behalf.

If I were to guess as to her intent, I would say that she is referring to the fact that "hope" hasn't been a legitimate theme since the days of Martin Luther King, Jr. Not just for blacks, but for people of all socio-economic backgrounds. The likes of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton have been poor torch bearers of this message.

Although many will zero in on the portion of her statement that refers to being "proud of her country for the first time in her adult life", I believe they will be misinterpreting the actual intent which is a message about hope.
