As I recall, they tell you to remove the cosmetic plastic exhaust covers, but I had a mounting screw that was so tight, that I could not do so on one side. (Eventually, I bought an impact driver and loosened it, but that was long after I installed the GIVI.) Anyway, I could mount it without removing the plastic, so I'd guess you could unmount without removal also.
