Here is how I installed it:
I took a piece of masking tape and outlined the voltmeter so I would have a stencil for cutting into the fairing. I had originally placed the stencil closer to the bottom, and then realized later that I hadn’t accounted for the inward curve of the piece, so I had to adjust the installation location back a little. I also had to leave enough room to be able to reach the screw holes for the bezel. If you’re installing it without a bezel, you could probably get away with locating it further down.
I used a Dremel to cut the hole for the voltmeter, leaving a little room for error.
I then cleaned up the hole with a utility knife and used the rubber gasket to mark where the holes for the mounting bezel should go.
I then popped the voltmeter in (making sure it wasn’t upside down… that’s the type of silly mistake I would normally make) and attached the bezel. I measured the amount of wire I needed in order to reach the relay and then attached the appropriate connection types to each end of the wire.
After connecting it and testing that everything is working properly, you’re ready to reinstall the fairing and enjoy your mad electrical skillz!
A special thanks goes out to all the members here who answer my never ending questions about this stuff. You guys rock!
