i have a 2006 and came to the same conlcusion that the stock front forks just plain suck, going on this forum and posting questions i came to the conclusion of either going r6 forks with the spacer adapter (yes it can be done but ur missing a good 5m spacer/washer) or get custom RaceTech springs done, so far my conclusion is i dont ride hard enough to use the r6 forks to its full potential, nor will i be able to maximize cornering on the street with a racetech mod, ive decided on going with changing the stock weight of the front fork oil its 5w and will soon be changed to 15w, unless you are serious in your riding abilities and run to a track quite often save yourself some money and just change the oil, if you dont like it change it back... i ride pretty hard on the street... i commute everyday but still racked up over 1000miles on my first 2 weeks with the bike on some serious twisties... aka SKAGGS SPRING ROAD baby!
thats just my 2cents
p.s. i was in the same exact shooze ur in a few days ago and $300-400 in parts is pretty expensive... im saving up for that devil magnum exhaust.... oooh how wicked!!!!!!!
edit: i just noticed u live in norcal? what part? im in sonoma county..
