Not much of anything worthwhile available in the OEM sizes for the Ninja250 and pre 94 Ninja 500 except the Dunlop OEM tires and they do indeed suck as you say compared to the rubber available today.

Metzeler suggests their Lasertecs and Pirelli their Demons both in the 110/90/16 and 130/90/16 sizes and you can't do much better than those for your EX250 or pre 94 EX500. The Demons seem to be the tire of choice on the EX/Ninja 500 forum.

The Lasertecs should wear a little better and the Demons should have a bit more stick. I never tried the Demons but I wore out a pair of Lasertecs on my GS500 and they were excellent, close to sport touring radials as advertised. I use a Lasertec front with a Road Attack rear now.

If you don't mount your own, check around for mount and balance prices in your area. Some places are more agreeable than others about mounting tires they don't sell.
