You wont need the tab on the top any ways so it doesn't matter if you were to break that. Its likely the pressure fit of the o-ring thats preventing you from pushing it up and out. Its been a while so I really cant remember what other tabs it may have had. I do remember having a bit of trouble separating the compressor as well.

Using any kind of terminal connector will not work. It's that close of a fit. Unless yours has slightly more room then mine, and I don't see why it would. My compressor actually touches the plate of the bottom of the tank. So no go on the spade connectors. Not to mention it would not sit flat with spade connectors on the bottom. The 2 pressure points could eventually wear a hole in the rubber mat the horn sits on. Thus potentially causing a short if it were to wear through. My method is only slightly more work and guaranteed not to have problems.

Let me know if yours happens to fit using spade connectors.
