I did this a while back so it's hard to remember exactly what I did. It seems like it is just a rubber grommet that holds it in. I took my fairings off because the turn signals I got needed an adaptor to be bolted on. This is what I used:

Before you go cutting any wires LP sells these wire jumpers with the Kawi factory connector on the end. It's pretty nice.
