Chain Lube
Well we've finally made it to the last portion of chain lubrication. Again, the kind of lube you use is up to you. I really haven't found anything that seems to be better then another. Use your own discretion. Or just use what the manufacturer of your bike recommends.
In this demo I used "Chain Wax" which seems to work fine. Make sure you read the directions on the can just to be on the safe side. "Chain Wax" wants me to lube the chain in three spots, which I can appreciate. But I have learned that it is way more than I need and end up with a mess after my first ride. So I only use it in two places: behind the sprocket (pic 1) and on the "underside" of the chain (pic 2) as I show below.
As with the grease, slowly rotate the wheel while spraying the lube onto the chain, first behind the sprocket and then on the underside of the chain.
NOTE: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH!!!! Again you run the risk of compromising your traction not to mention the inside of your mid-fairing will be gross from all the grease. Less is more in this situation. If it seems dry later, you can always add a spritz.
After it's all said and done, you have lubricant overspray on your rims, chain guard and swing arm. Third pic shows the rim-right behind the sprocket gets the most overspray-and a fully lubed chain.
Next: Clean up!
