As for riding in the rain, it's just a matter of getting used to it. We were out yesterday and I managed to make some runs at 80+ (hard to look down at that point). As long as you ahve tires that can handle the wet (I'm on Metzler M1's) it's not that bad.

Though I didn't get quite low enough to drag a knee
