Take that MSF course then turn around and buy one of those two-fidies that you ride in that class. That will be your long term training bike, just try not to get hit from behind.

Seriously I started out on a 600 SS but it was 13 years old (1987 Hurricane 600) and it was much much slower than the new ones. I rode it around for about a year then upgraded to a new TLR. I never felt comfortable on the first bike it was way to small for me, in size not power. My wife said I looked silly on it. I would have never bought a new bike as my first, even though I never dropped mine. The new 600's are two fast, to light and to nimble, they almost feel like toys which they aren't.

Most importantly take the MSF, you will be amazed of how much you will learn about the bike and the road. Second always respect the bike and every moving object on the street.
